The festival audience will have an opportunity to see three contemporary circus performances combining elements of theatre, clowning, acrobatics, juggling and music. On 29 June at 6.30 p.m. in Plac Kolegiacki, artists and musicians from the companies CirKusKus and Campana Batucata (Slovakia) will present Circus Batucada, a performance which merges acrobatics, circus tricks and live percussion music.

Two other events will take place on the festival’s last day, Sunday 3 July. At 12 p.m. in Fryderyk Chopin Park, we invite you to Clown Invasion: a cyberpunk event group directed by Michał Walczak (Poland). Later, at 4 p.m. in Plac Kolegiacki, you will be able to see C´est La... Wheel by V.O.S.A. Theatre & Sunriders (Czechia).

The idea behind the project Circus Beyond the Tricks. New Perspectives is to strengthen and promote the contemporary circus movement as an equal field of performing arts. During the Malta Festival, which will take place from 27 June to 3 July, we will show contemporary circus productions, in addition to a conference dedicated to making new contacts and discussing the structural problems of the new-circus environment. We are also inviting volunteers from the Visegrad Group countries to collaborate on the festival.

The project is co-financed by the Governments of Czechia, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia through Visegrad Grants from International Visegrad Fund. The mission of the fund is to advance ideas for sustainable regional cooperation in Central Europe.
