A special event is the premiere of Projekt Krynicki created by three acclaimed composers: Paweł Mykietyn, Alek Nowak and Paweł Szymański. Each artist was commissioned by Malta to compose music to poems by Ryszard Krynicki. The world premiere will be presented on 24 June at the Poznań International Fair. One of the compositions will be played by Sinfonia Varsovia conducted by Bassem Akiki. As an encore, the orchestra will perform Maurice Ravel’s Boléro accompanied by Mariusz “Wilk” Wilczyński, who will be drawing an animated story live.

Recently, the Malta Festival held two competitions for artists. During the first of these, Chodźmy w plener / Let’s hit the outdoors, the jury chose a series of outdoor events, ranging from short theatre and music to new circus projects. The second, Zaklepane / Ground Rules provided a selection of artistic projects focusing on the social contexts of earth. The 17 projects will be presented in an installation/fortress created by Ola Korbańska and Iwo Borkowicz titled Nothing Disappears, It Just Changes Place. To create the installation, Ola and Iwo used earth dug from Wieniawski Park.

This is just the beginning of our announcements. The whole programme will be revealed during our press conference at the end of May. The programme will present theatre in public space and critical theatre (performances produced by Komuna Warszawa directed by Anna Smolar, by Cezary Tomaszewski, Agnieszka Smoczyńska and Agnieszka Jakimiak). It will also feature open-air concerts, activities for children, yoga on the lawn, dance warmups, socially engaged premieres, a finale concert, art installations and interventions, workshops, meetings and debates.

The visual identification of the Malta Festival, designed by Marcin Matuszak and Krzysztof Ignasiak of Bękarty, draws inspiration from the 1990s and the aesthetics of comics and pop art. The festival motion design has been produced by Kineza and the web design by Huncwot. We feel great in the new colours!

We are still in the pandemic, but we believe that social distancing and observing the sanitary regime will let us see art live.

Save the date: 18 to 29 June 2021! See you at Malta!
