Teatr Nowy (The New Theatre) in Poznań was continuously haunted by the spectre of bankruptcy in the years preceding the Second World War. After the war, however, after briefly operating as a private enterprise, it lost its autonomy to become part of the State Dramatic Theatres. These two stages of its existence formed a struggle-filled prelude to the 1973 reactivation of the New Theatre as an independent instutution. Its history began again at this point, and continues until today.
