The Polish Theatre in Poznań began in the 19th century, during the partitions of Poland, and is the oldest amongst all the Polish Theatres. It opened in 1875. In this region, it took on the character of the (not „a”) National Stage, both signifier and symbol. and A splendid house for Polish national culture and the audiences of Greater Poland was created here, and it was created through political, patriotic, and social engineering actions, all imbued with symbolic meaning. It was created as a world for the nation – the house is, after all, a universal model of the world; a nexus of spatial and interpersonal relationships.
